Join us for a special three- part workshop and support group led by Katie Robinson, Foster Village Charlotte’s Director of Programs and Advocacy, as we explore ADHD and its unique impact on children who have experienced foster care.
This workshop is designed for foster and kinship caregivers who want to better understand neurodivergence and learn practical, trauma-informed strategies to support their children.

Forever Parent Support Group (In-Person)
Join us in-person for Forever Family Support group on Sunday, June 22nd! In partnership with Erin Nasmyth from Adoption Support Alliance this group is designed for caregivers who have adopted or gained guardianship through foster care. It is also open to foster parents navigating the journey toward adoption (post-TPR).
Our Forever Family groups will be anchored by a topic of focus each month. The topic of focus for June is biological family relationships. But, please know that you can bring up issues outside the topic of focus if you need or want to but the topics will help us focus our conversations. There is always so much to talk about and we want to help structure those conversations so everyone can get the most possible out of our time together.
Forever Family Support Group will be held from 3-4:30 PM, To support families, onsite childcare will be provided by trauma-informed and background-checked volunteers. If you plan to utilize childcare, please register only yourself initially; you will be prompted to complete registration for your children in the following steps.
This group offers a welcoming space to share your experiences, receive support, and foster a sense of community. We can’t wait to see you there!
Kinship Corner (In-Person Support Group)
Foster Village Charlotte is excited to offer a Kinship Caregiver Support Group, designed specifically for those who are raising children as relatives. This group provides a safe and supportive space for kinship caregivers to connect with one another, share experiences, and receive encouragement.
Join us in person on Sunday, February 16th, from 3:00–4:30 PM to gather with others who understand the unique challenges and rewards of kinship caregiving. Led by Seima Samuels, MSW, LCSWA Anew U Counseling Services PLLC, this group is a great opportunity to connect with fellow caregivers, share resources, and receive support from our dedicated team.
This is a wonderful opportunity to build community and find the care and encouragement you deserve.

Village Family Spring Gathering
Village Spring Gathering is back! A favorite for families of Foster Village Charlotte, this can’t-miss event is is an opportunity to PLAY alongside other families connected to foster care.
Join us on Saturday, August 16th from 5:00-7:00 PM with our friends at Sweetwater Farms for an afternoon of fun for the whole family. Enjoy face painting, farm animals, and fun surprises—plus, dinner is included! Don’t miss this special evening of connection and play!

This is an open, confidential support group for foster and kinship caregivers meant to help facilitate dialogue and provide tangible, practical, and experiential ways to address compassion fatigue/self-care needs while fostering alongside a therapist and peers.
Open to all licensed foster/kinship parents with a focus on those seeking connection and support among others who are experiencing caregiving through the lens of foster or kinship care.
Childcare is available onsite with appropriate curriculum to support children's needs.

Sensory and Regulation Workshop
Gain a deeper understanding of sensory processing and its impact on a child's development with an interactive workshop Project SOOTHe Coordinator, Dana!
Caregivers will leave with a deeper understanding of sensory processing in child development, strategies for promoting self-regulation, and practical techniques to provide sensory support and advocate for the child's needs.
Training will be held from 3-5 PM, will childcare available onsite. Community style dinner to follow at 5 PM. 2 hours certificate will be provided toward relicensing

Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE) Training
Join us on Saturday, April 26th for a free, trauma-informed training designed to strengthen child-adult interactions, encourage positive behaviors, and increase child engagement.
Child-Adult Relationship Enhancement (CARE) equips foster and kinship caregivers with practical, evidence-based skills to build stronger connections with children and teens (ages 2-18). CARE compliments ongoing therapeutic services and provides tools that can be used in any setting.
This four-hour, hands on training includes:
Strategies to improve child-adult relationships
Techniques to encourage cooperation and positive behavior
Tools to create a supportive, engaging environment
Interactive activities and live practice with trainer feedback
Earn a 4-hour certificate toward relicensing. Childcare available onsite with trauma-informed, background-checked volunteers.

Open Play Day
Keep your cool when there is no school and join Foster Village Charlotte for our March Open Play Day at our Connection Cottage. This drop-in-event is a great opportunity to experience connection and play alongside other families in our fun, child focused center. Children can enjoy our sensory play studio (complete with foam bit and climbing wall) as well as learn more about what's upcoming at the village. Games, activities, snacks and light lunch will be available to families from 10-1 PM. Please register to allow our team to help prepare.

Food Security Workshop
Join FVC on Sunday, March 23rd for a workshop highlighting the importance of food security for children in care. Ashley Roehrig, MS RDN LDN CEDRD and Annie Goldsmith, RD, LDN from Second Breakfast Nutrition will be joining Foster Village Charlotte for an in-person training to discuss how trauma and neglect/attachment issues impacts eating and the connection with the body. Caregivers will learn the brain science behind food behaviors common in foster care and how to support a child’s journey while they are living in your homes. This training is open to all foster, kinship, and adoptive families.
Training will be held from 3-5 PM, with a community dinner to follow at 5 PM. Childcare is available onsite through our incredible team of staff and volunteers.
2 hours certificate will be provided toward relicensing

Join us for Connection Sundays with Foster Village Charlotte, beginning on Sunday, February 16th. This welcoming space is designed for foster, kinship, and adoptive families to connect with one another and our team of experts. From 3-5 PM, enjoy a supportive environment while our trauma-trained, background-checked volunteers provide childcare, giving you the time to recharge and build community.
Choose one of the three support options below that fits your needs, you’ll be prompted to select one opportunity that aligns with your needs.
Option 1: Forever Family Support Group: In partnership with Erin Nasmyth from Adoption Support Alliance this group is designed for caregivers who have adopted or gained guardianship through foster care. It is also open to foster parents navigating the journey toward adoption (post-TPR).
Option 2: Kinship Corner: A dedicated space specifically for those who are raising children as relatives to connect and share experiences.
Option 3: Connection Corner: Relax over tea and coffee for informal, supportive discussions with fellow caregivers. Open to any foster, kinship, or adoptive parent with or without an active placement.
Daytime Caregiver In-Person Support Group
This is an open confidential support group meant to help facilitate dialogue and provide tangible, practical, and experiential ways to address compassion fatigue/self-care needs while fostering alongside a therapist and peers. Open to all licensed foster/kinship parents with a focus on those seeking connection and support among others who are experiencing caregiving through the lens of foster or kinship care. This group will include a special child enrichment activity for children!
Caregiver In-Person Support Group/ Siblings of Foster Care Group
Open support group for anyone fostering or providing kinship care. Childcare will engage all ages in multi-sensory play! While caregivers are together in our beautiful new space, kids will be next door having fun with volunteers.
This time we have a unique opportunity for forever children in your home (whether biological or adopted) to be supported processing foster care. We know that when adults decide to do kinship or foster care, it impacts the WHOLE family and yet there is very few (if any!) content directed to the children already in the home.
Brittany Luther, Child Life Specialist, created curriculum and hold group sessions around waiting, loss, unknowns, jealousy, frustrations, and grief and she'll be there Sunday ready to support our kiddos!
Long Haul Fostering Support Group
For individuals and families who have had long-term cases (2+ years) or have been fostering for 5+ years. We recognize the challenges and struggles this group faces and want to give you all a community of other foster parents who get it.
Mother's Day Appreciation Event
Foster and Kinship Moms, we see you, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you.
Join us on Friday, May 12th between 9-4 pm for a special, drop-in event with Twenty Two West and Milk & Honey CLT, honoring the mothers of Foster Village Charlotte. Space is limited, please register to attend.

This course is led by Katie Robinson and Rachel Rosenfeld. Katie is LCSW that specializes in child therapy, is a former special education educator, and adoptive parent from foster care. Rachel is a veteran school psychologist with over 20 years experience as a foster parent.
Village Bridge: Between MAPP and First Placement
Are you in the place where you completed MAPP but haven't yet received your license or first placement? Foster Village Charlotte has spent years gathering resources, uncovering patterns, and discovering the best content to help new foster parents succeed. We're a team of experienced foster parents, child development experts, and therapists. We get it. We've been there. Let's help you launch well.
Meeting others beginning their fostering journey is a lifeline as you begin taking placements. This group allows you to meet others across different agencies, building your network of support. Completing this workshop also give participants the ability to be linked with a seasoned foster parent to serve as a mentor during your first 4-6 months of being an active foster parent. These individuals, known as Village Guides, bring relational and experiential support with the objective of helping you navigating the complexity of the child welfare system. Thanks to Charlotte Mecklenburg Community Foundation, this is a grant-funded program and is free of charge for participants but 80-100% participation is required for those that register.
