What Is Project SOOTHe?

Giving Resources

Project SOOTHe provides families with the opportunity to receive a free consultation and an individualized program of sensory and play-based strategies to help you engage and bond with the children in your home.

How Does it Help?

Building Relationships

Sensory processing is the way the brain receives, interprets, and responds to sensory input.

Sometimes when children experience trauma, their brain begins to respond inappropriately to sensory stimuli.  This is known as Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) or referred to as sensory sensitivities.  80% of children in foster care have SPD compared to 20% of the general population.

If a child’s sensory needs aren’t met, you as a caregiver may see some struggles with emotional regulation,  transitions, social skills, sensitivities to light, smells, and/or sounds, and a plethora of other sensory-related  behaviors. The good news is that meeting these unique needs can make all the difference, and that’s where  Project SOOTHe comes in!

Project SOOTHe has a library of sensory tools that can be utilized throughout the child’s day - giving you the opportunity to try various tools to find the just right one. Providing the right sensory input and environmental accommodations to a child can help improve:

  • Attention

  • Attachment

  • Coping Skills

  • Emotional Regulation

  • Healing

Rebecca, Foster Parent

“My foster son has always had trouble self regulating and that was very apparent at bedtime. He would wake up 7-8 times a night needing me to help him fall back asleep. Project SOOTHe has helped with strategies to help him calm himself and put himself to sleep. He is now only up about twice a night.”

Being the village is the act of showing up. Let’s show up together.

Your support gives children experiencing foster care and the families caring for them the village of support they need to thrive.
